In Kenya, biogas digester was first developed and commercially sold in the late 1950s. In 2019, more than 17,000 biogas plants has been build/operated. The Kenya Biogas Program (KBP) with the supports of Dutch government and NGO (Hivos and SNV) was the instrumental of building capacity of biogas builders and expanding Biogas Market. Recent years, plot type biogas digesters became commercially available. To maintain the quality of biogas digester technologies, KBP certifies and monitors the biogas technologies in Kenya.
